Magician

Magician was one of the first AI plugins to feel native to Figma: type a prompt, get a unique vector icon, an image, or a snippet of UX copy dropped straight onto your canvas. Built by Diagram — the studio Figma later acquired to power its AI push — it remains a neat, narrow tool at an impulse-buy price.

What we like

The icon generator is the reason to care. Results arrive as editable SVG vectors, so you can restyle strokes and fills like any Figma shape rather than being stuck with a raster blob. For mockups that need one odd icon your library lacks — "origami crane," "vintage seismograph" — it beats ten minutes of Noun Project spelunking. Staying inside Figma is the whole value: no tab-switching, no downloads, no imports. At roughly $5 a month, the cost bar it has to clear is low.

Where it falls short

Quality is a slot machine. Simple concepts land in one or two tries; anything compositionally tricky produces wobbly geometry you regenerate repeatedly. The image and copywriting features are distinctly weaker than dedicated tools. Most importantly, Figma's acquisition of Diagram means the best ideas here have been flowing into Figma's native AI — active development on the plugin has visibly slowed, and its long-term future is an open question.

Verdict

If you live in Figma and frequently need one-off custom icons, Magician still earns its small fee. But before subscribing, check whether Figma's built-in AI already covers your need — for a growing number of designers, it does, and Magician becomes a footnote in its own success story.
