Onboarding asks you to pick 50 colors, then a personalized algorithm generates endless combinations — displayed as typography pairings, gradients, and swatches — tuned to your taste.

What we like

The personalization actually works. After training, the stream of combinations sits noticeably closer to your sensibility than the slot-machine output of random generators, which makes it a genuinely good tool for escaping your default three colors without landing somewhere alien. The presentation is thoughtful: seeing a pair as real text on a background, not just adjacent swatches, answers the question that matters. WCAG contrast ratios appear on each combination, quietly making it one of the more accessibility-minded color tools. And it is entirely, honestly free.

Where it falls short

The 50-color training session is a real commitment for a tool you might use twice a month, and results are only as good as your patience during setup. Khroma thinks in pairs — building a complete five-or-six-color brand system means assembling it yourself from multiple generations. There are no Figma plugins or palette exports beyond copying hex values, so it lives outside your actual workflow.

Verdict

As a free discovery tool, Khroma is easy to recommend: train it once, then visit whenever a project needs colors that feel like you but fresher. It won't replace Coolors for rapid full-palette assembly or a designer's judgment for brand systems, but as a taste-calibrated idea generator, it's a lovely thing that costs nothing.
