What we like

The generosity is real. Learn mode, practice tests, and spaced repetition are free on Knowt while Quizlet gates its equivalents. The AI ingestion pipeline is the standout feature: feed it lecture notes, a PDF, or even a YouTube lecture link and it returns organized notes and a usable flashcard deck. For a college student drowning in recorded lectures, that's hours of prep automated. The Quizlet importer removes all switching cost, which is exactly the right growth strategy and exactly what users want.

Where it falls short

Knowt is the challenger, and it shows. The pre-made set library is far thinner than Quizlet's, so you'll import or generate more of your own material. AI-generated cards are only as good as the source — dense slides can produce vague or trivially easy cards that need manual pruning. And the product, while improving quickly, still has rougher edges than its decade-old rival: occasional sync hiccups and UI quirks.

Verdict

For any student paying for Quizlet Plus primarily to study their own material, switching to Knowt is close to free money — import your sets and cancel. The AI note-and-video ingestion alone justifies trying it. Students who rely heavily on Quizlet's massive pre-made library have less reason to move. Knowt Plus is cheap, but most students will find the free tier covers a full semester. One of the easiest recommendations in the study-tool space.
