Teachable has been converting expertise into income since the mid-2010s, and its longevity shows in the right ways: payments, EU VAT, student management, and video hosting are solved problems here. For a coach or expert whose goal is "sell my knowledge without becoming a web developer," it remains one of the most direct routes.

What we like

The creation flow is fast — upload videos, arrange a curriculum, set a price, and you are selling. Teachable acting as merchant of record for taxes removes a genuinely painful chore that cheaper DIY stacks leave on your desk. The AI tools are practical rather than decorative: outlines from a topic, quizzes from lesson content, and summaries save hours of scaffolding per course. Coaching products and digital downloads mean one platform covers the typical creator's whole product ladder, and the built-in affiliate feature lets your students sell for you.

Where it falls short

The fee structure demands attention: 10% on free and 5% on Basic means a $10,000 launch quietly loses real money until you upgrade to Pro at roughly $119 a month. Design flexibility is mediocre — Teachable sites look like Teachable sites unless you fight the theme editor. Most importantly, there is no meaningful marketing engine inside: no serious email automation, no funnel builder. Teachable sells to your audience; it does not help you build one.

Verdict

Pick Teachable if you have an audience or traffic source already and want the most frictionless course storefront with taxes handled. Go straight to Pro once revenue is real — the fee math makes it obvious. If you need the marketing machine bundled in, price out Kajabi; if you are selling simple digital files, Gumroad is lighter still.
