Rows asks a fair question: if spreadsheets are where business data actually ends up, why do they still require CSV exports, brittle add-ons, and screenshots to share? Its answer is a rebuilt spreadsheet with native connectors that pull live data straight into cells, AI woven into formulas, and one-click publishing of sheets as clean interactive reports.

What we like

The integrations are the reason to switch. A marketing sheet where GA4 sessions, ad spend, and Stripe revenue refresh themselves on schedule replaces hours of monthly export-paste-fix drudgery — this is the feature users stay for. Because it is still recognizably a spreadsheet, the retraining cost is close to zero; formulas work the way your fingers expect. The AI features are refreshingly practical: the AI Analyst summarizes what changed in your data, and in-cell AI functions (classify this feedback, extract the company name) treat the LLM as just another formula, which is exactly right. Published reports deserve mention — sharing a Rows report link instead of granting sheet access is better for both sides.

Where it falls short

The honest cost is leaving the Excel/Sheets gravity well: collaborators without Rows accounts, corporate IT standardization, and decades of muscle memory all push back. Very large sheets get sluggish sooner than in Excel. And the free tier's refresh limits mean the teams who most benefit from live data land on paid plans quickly, with some premium connectors gated higher still.

Verdict

For startups, marketers, and ops teams whose reporting lives in spreadsheets fed by SaaS tools, Rows is a genuine upgrade — the connector-plus-publishing combination alone justifies ~$15/user for the people who own reporting. It will not displace Excel across an enterprise, and it does not need to. Adopt it for the recurring reports that currently eat your Mondays.
