Instead, it focuses on code integrity — reviewing pull requests, generating tests, and catching the bugs that slip past a tired human reviewer. If your team's bottleneck is review quality rather than typing speed, Qodo is aimed squarely at you.

What we like

Qodo Merge, the PR review agent, is the standout. It reads the full diff with codebase context, writes a coherent PR description, flags risky changes, and suggests concrete fixes rather than vague "consider refactoring" noise. The test generation is also better than most: it proposes edge cases you would plausibly forget, and it explains why each test matters. The free Developer tier is genuinely usable, not a crippled demo, and the platform covers VS Code, JetBrains, GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket, so it fits into existing workflows rather than demanding a new editor.

Where it falls short

The name situation is a real problem — half the developers we talk to think Qodo and Codeium are the same product. On large, tangled codebases the generated tests can be shallow and need pruning before they are worth committing. And if you want a best-in-class inline completion experience, Qodo's is serviceable but behind Cursor and Copilot; you will likely run it alongside another assistant rather than instead of one.
