Greptile indexes your entire repository first, so when it reviews a pull request it can notice that your change duplicates a helper that already exists, contradicts how the other twelve services handle retries, or breaks an invariant defined three directories away. That is the kind of comment senior engineers make and diff-only bots structurally cannot.

What we like

The full-context approach delivers real, differentiated findings. In our experience the most valuable Greptile comments are exactly the cross-file ones — "this reimplements utils/backoff.ts" or "other callers of this function assume it never returns null." The comment volume philosophy is also right: fewer, higher-confidence findings rather than a wall of nitpicks, which keeps developers actually reading them. It learns from thumbs-up/down and replies, and the codebase Q&A — asking questions about how your own system works in natural language — is a useful bonus for onboarding engineers.

Where it falls short

At roughly $30 per developer per month, Greptile costs more than double CodeRabbit's entry tier, and there is no lasting free tier to grow from. Indexing very large monorepos takes time and occasional babysitting. And as a younger company, it lacks the enterprise track record procurement teams like, even though self-hosting addresses the data concern.

Verdict

For teams with large, convention-rich codebases where cross-file consistency matters, Greptile is the strongest reviewer we have tested and worth its premium. For small teams or budget-first buyers, CodeRabbit delivers most of the value at half the price.
