Where it falls short

Visual programming stops scaling when flows get serious: a 40-node canvas with conditionals and sub-flows is harder to review, diff, and debug than the equivalent code, and version control on JSON flow exports is unpleasant. Self-hosted production means you own auth, scaling, and observability — gaps that have bitten teams who treated a prototype as a product. Documentation covers the happy path well and the edge cases sparsely.

Flowise is an easy recommendation for developers and technical founders who want to prototype RAG apps and agents fast, self-host cheaply, and expose everything as APIs. Treat it as a rapid-prototyping layer and be deliberate about when to graduate hot paths to code. Non-technical users should look at Gumloop or Stack AI instead — Flowise assumes you know what an embedding is.
