Boomy

Boomy's pitch made headlines: millions of songs created, ordinary people releasing tracks to Spotify over a lunch break. It remains the lowest-friction path from zero musical ability to a song with your name on it — but the intervening years of AI music progress have not been kind to its audio quality.

What we like

The end-to-end pipeline is still unique. Generate a track, tweak the arrangement, submit, and Boomy handles distribution to Spotify, Apple Music, and the rest — no DistroKid account, no cover art hassles, no metadata forms. As a creative toy, it's genuinely fun: kids and curious adults get the dopamine of making something real in minutes. The community charts give hobbyists a small audience, and the free tier is enough to understand exactly what you're buying.

Where it falls short

Quality is the problem. Boomy's instrumental loops sound like competent preset jams, while Suno and Udio now produce full songs with convincing vocals from a text prompt — the gap is not close. The royalty model deserves scrutiny too: Boomy keeps rights and a substantial revenue share, and the get-paid-from-streams dream has dimmed as Spotify and distributors aggressively filter low-effort AI catalog and artificial streams. Serious creators will outgrow the editing tools within a week.

Verdict

Boomy is a fun on-ramp, not a music career. If the goal is the experience of releasing a song — for a kid, a gift, a lark — it delivers cheaply and instantly. If the goal is good-sounding AI music, use Suno; if it's ownable production music, use AIVA or Soundraw. We'd treat Boomy as entertainment spending, not a creator investment.
