Booke.ai attacks the two most tedious parts of running a bookkeeping practice: categorizing endless bank feeds and chasing clients to explain mystery transactions. It plugs into QuickBooks Online and Xero, applies AI categorization, and routes anything ambiguous to a clean client portal instead of an email thread nobody answers.

What we like

The client portal is the feature firms stay for. Clients get a simple link, answer "what was this $412 charge?" in two taps, and the answer flows back into the ledger — no CCs, no attachments, no follow-up emails. Per-client pricing starting around $20 a month means a solo bookkeeper can adopt it for a handful of accounts without a firm-wide commitment. The OCR extraction on receipts and invoices is competent, and the Chrome extension surfacing AI suggestions directly inside QuickBooks fits how bookkeepers actually work rather than forcing another tab.

Where it falls short

AI categorization is good, not trustworthy-blind. On complex books — heavy job costing, unusual chart-of-accounts structures — you will still review its work, and the time savings shrink accordingly. Booke is also a smaller vendor: the integration list is short beyond QuickBooks and Xero, the ecosystem of consultants and templates is thin, and firms betting their workflow on it should factor that in. If your clients live in NetSuite or Sage, this is not your tool.

Verdict

For small and mid-sized bookkeeping practices on QuickBooks or Xero, Booke.ai is an easy, low-risk win — start with your five messiest clients and the portal will pay for itself in saved follow-ups. Larger firms with complex client books should trial it honestly against Keeper before standardizing. A focused tool that does its narrow job well.
