Where it falls short

The honest problem is that watching an agent loop is more fun than the output it produces. Without deep integrations, agents cannot send emails, update spreadsheets, or touch your actual tools, so results terminate as text on a screen. On concrete goals, agents frequently wander, repeat tasks, or declare victory prematurely. And the broader agent ecosystem has raced ahead — frameworks with function calling, memory, and real tool use make AgentGPT's loop feel like a museum piece. Development activity has visibly slowed.

Verdict

Treat AgentGPT as an educational toy, and a good one: it is the fastest way to show a colleague what "autonomous agent" means. Use the free tier for that.
